On the lookout for pieces made by local artisans? Trove’s got you covered.
Established in June 2018, Trove Design Shop carries a variety of goods and art for the savvy shopper. Accented with exposed brick and historic charm, Trove proved to be the perfect location for owner Karen Gathany. After months of exploring the city of Birmingham for a brick and mortar space, she fell in love with downtown Woodlawn.
She carries goods from all over the world, like minimalist Japanese notebooks and bumblebee earrings from California, but she spotlights local items at the front of her store. Currently, she has several Birmingham pieces on display, which you can check out in the gallery!
Due to the high demand for one-of-a-kind works, Gathany often hosts pop-up shops, creative workshops, and giveaways to support local businesses. This past weekend, she offered a discount if you had a receipt showing you bought something from another business in Woodlawn. As a new member of the Woodlawn Business Association, Gathany is excited about the vibrant district’s future.
“The promise of momentum is uplifting,” says Gathany.
She would love to see more foot traffic in downtown Woodlawn, so stop by the next time you’re in her neck of the woods. If there’s a specific item you are looking for, or if you want to hold a photography shoot in her space, just let her know! Here’s to a cheery holiday season with unique gifts for all your hard-to-shop-for relatives.
She recently extended shopping hours; they’re now W-F from 11-6 and Sa-Su from 9-3. Follow her socials to stay up to date on Instagram and Facebook @trovebham.
